FREDERIKSHAVN, Denmark – Japan beat Beijing Olympic bronze medalists Finland 1-0 to clinch their best-ever result on Sunday with a fifth-place finish at the women’s ice hockey world championships.
In the fifth- and sixth-place playoffs on the final day of the event in Frederikshavn, Denmark, Japan won a 2-1 shootout after neither team scored in regulation and overtime. Finland took 61 shots to Japan’s 17.
