The disapproval rating of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s cabinet jumped in two media polls over the weekend, amid the government’s struggles to address issues related to the pandemic, the Unification Church and the the controversy surrounding former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s funeral plans.
A Yomiuri Shimbun poll conducted nationwide from Friday to Sunday found the Cabinet’s disapproval rating topped 40% for the first time and now stands at 41%, up 7 percentage points from the previous previous survey in early August. Compared to the disapproval rate in July, which stood at 24%, this figure represents an increase of 17 percentage points.
