Albanian Prime Minister Rama announced in a video statement that he would immediately cut ties with Iran. He said the decision was “fully proportionate to the severity and danger of cyberattacks which threatened to cripple public services, infiltrate government systems and cause domestic unrest and unrest”.
The Iranian Embassy in Albania was not immediately available for comment.
The US government announced that an investigation concluded that Iran was behind the July 15 cyberattack. The United States will take further action to endanger the security of its allies and hold Iran accountable for its malicious cyberattacks, the National Security Council (NSC) said in a statement.
Albania and Iran have been in tension since 2014, when Albania took in some 3,000 members of Iranian dissident Mujahideen al-Khalq, who settled near the main Albanian port of Durrës. .
