(Reuters) – Carlos Queiroz has been named Iran’s new coach just over two months before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. State news agency IRNA reported on September 1.
Queiroz arrived in Tehran over the weekend and signed a contract to replace former manager Dragan Skocic, according to IRNA.
Scotic led Iran to the World Cup with 15 wins in 18 matches under his tenure. However, he was influenced by personnel matters, such as the dismissal in July and the sudden return immediately after his denunciation.
Former Real Madrid manager Queiroz meanwhile managed the Iranian national team, helping them at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
Iran will face England, Wales and the United States in Group B of the World Cup.
