During her 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II has forged close ties with the Imperial Family, spanning all or part of the reigns of three Emperors.

The Queen, who died on Thursday at the age of 96, helped the United Kingdom and Japan overcome difficulties following hostilities during the Second World War. She had exchanges with former Emperor Hirohito, known posthumously as Emperor Showa, Emperor Akihito, and current Emperor Naruhito.
