Japanese Ministry of Health panel backs Pfizer and Moderna omicron boosters

Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines targeting the omicron variant have won support from health experts in Japan, paving the way for their rollout in the country.

A panel that advises the Department of Health approved the rollout of the recalls, according to a statement from the department on Monday. The Ministry relies on the recommendations of the expert panel to approve most therapies. Pfizer’s omicron booster can be given to people ages 12 and older, while Moderna’s is limited to people 18 and older, the panel said.
