Princess Meghan returned to England with a hidden microphone and suspicions for a “cold treatment” program | Forbes JAPAN (Forbes Japan)

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who left their posts as senior members of the British royal family more than two years ago, were again met with coldness by some members of the public and the media after returning home after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Over the weekend, a video of Meghan Markle waving to a crowd of mourners outside Windsor Castle outside London on Saturday went viral. In it, three women appear cold as Meghan reaches out for a handshake.

On social media, accusations were made that Meghan was wearing a hidden microphone, due to a fine square wrinkle around the waist of Meghan’s mourning dress. There was also unsubstantiated speculation that the couple had collected material for a Netflix documentary.

Meghan Markle’s popularity in the UK has plummeted since 2020, when she left full-time royal life with Prince Harry and moved to North America. Last year, the couple sparked further backlash when they exposed Meghan’s treatment in the royal family in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, claiming some senior royals had also made racist remarks.

A YouGov poll in May found that only 25% of Britons had a favorable opinion of Meghan.

Some of the suspicions surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan are rooted in fears that they’ve been profiting from their businesses since leaving the UK, as well as their titles and status (they have Spotify, Netflix and deal numbers million dollar exclusivity contract).

There are also indications that Meghan is being treated unfairly by the public and the media because she is black. In an interview with Winfrey, Prince Harry revealed that the racism Meghan faced in Britain was “a big part” of her decision to leave the UK.

The couple were traveling in Europe to attend several receptions last week when Queen Elizabeth’s health deteriorated. She is expected to stay in the UK until the Queen’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey on the 19th. (Meghan is refraining from streaming new episodes of her “Archetypes” podcast on Spotify during her official mourning period.)

In a recent New York Post column, British TV host Piers Morgan argued that Prince Harry should “stop” his wife from talking about the Royal Family. He also predicted Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir would be “catastrophic” for the Royal Family, and if you really want to believe you have any sense of honor for your father (the new King Charles), Penguin Random House, I appeal to me should cancel the huge contract with and cancel the publication.
