Japan records 70,975 new coronavirus cases

Tokyo, Sept. 17 (Jiji Press) — Japan confirmed 70,975 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection on Saturday, down about 21,700 from the previous week.

The number of critically ill patients stood at 309, down 17 from Friday, while 138 new COVID-19-related deaths were reported.

In Tokyo, new infection cases fell by 1,970 from the previous week to 8,018, with the number of critically ill patients by Tokyo’s own criteria standing at 24, down two from Friday. . Ten new deaths have been confirmed among COVID-19 patients in the Japanese capital.

The seven-day average of new infection cases in Tokyo stood at 8,333, down 16.5 percent from the previous week, according to the metropolitan government.
