Victim laments ‘largely unsuccessful’ attempts to address North Korean abductions

Kaoru Hasuike, who was abducted by North Korea in 1978 and returned to Japan in 2002, has expressed frustration at how efforts to address the abduction problem have “largely failed”.

“If reuniting victims with their parents is the single most important solution to the abduction problem, it has largely failed,” said Hasuike, 64, referring to the deaths of victims’ parents in recent years.
