Prince William and Catherine, formerly known as the Fab Four, attended Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on September 19. Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex walked together behind the Queen’s coffin.
However, behind the scenes, there would be squabbles over Prince Harry wearing military uniforms and the titles of the couple’s children. I couldn’t see a thing.
Prince William attended the state funeral in military uniform. Meanwhile, Prince Harry, who has not been allowed to wear military uniforms since leaving the Royal Family, wore a decorated jacket. As the Queen’s coffin was brought to Westminster Abbey, Harry stood with his eyes lowered as the Royal Family in military uniform saluted.
The four did not look at each other as they walked behind the coffin, and there were separate seats for Prince William’s family and Prince Harry. The royal couple and their eldest son Prince George and eldest daughter Charlotte are family members of King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward) and were seated in the front row. The royal couple were seated in the second row, alongside their cousin Princess Beatrice, directly behind the royal couple.
Prince Harry wore a military uniform at the Queen’s coffin ceremony on Saturday evening, leading to speculation he may be allowed to attend the state funeral in military dress. The permission to wear military uniforms is seen as a move by the King to reconcile Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Two days after the Queen’s death, Prince William and Prince Harry appeared together outside Windsor Castle on Monday, raising hopes of reconciliation. But the Daily Mail, quoting a person familiar with the matter, said there was “no meaningful settlement” so far. (c)AFP/Hélène ROWE
