[キーウ(キエフ) 19日 ロイター] – Ukraine announced on the 18th that it had advanced to the east bank of the Oskir River, which flows north to south through the northeastern province of Kharkiv. The Oskir River joins the Donets River to the south through Lugansk, the pro-Russian controlled area of the Donbass region, and will be another important victory in the counter-offensive in Kharkov Oblast.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech late Thursday that Russia would not relax its fighting stance in order to regain the territories it had taken from Russia.
“We crossed the Oskir River. Since yesterday we have taken control of the eastern bank,” the Ukrainian military said in a Telegram post on Thursday evening.
“Lugansk region is right next door.
A Ukrainian official said Russian forces shelled towns and villages on the eastern and southern front lines on Saturday. Other targets included civilian infrastructure in the city of Zaporozhye.
The British Ministry of Defense said the deteriorating wartime situation prompted Russian forces to step up attacks on civilian infrastructure, which could lead to even more targets.
Ukrainian military officials said they repelled Russian attacks in some areas, including Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. It is said that multiple attacks were also carried out against air defense installations and ammunition depots, and that they were hit.
Reuters could not independently confirm the situation.
