Ahead of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly, top diplomats from South Korea and Japan met in New York on the 19th (local time).

Foreign Minister Park Jin met with Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi for 50 minutes at a hotel in Manhattan, New York, in the afternoon of the same day.

As a summit between President Yoon and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is due to take place during the UN General Assembly, it is believed that the two sides exchanged views on major outstanding issues such as a law on reparations for forced labor.

Meanwhile, President Yoon will participate as a speaker in the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York on the 20th. He will be the 10th head of state among the leaders of member countries to stand on the podium and deliver a speech in Korean. Also, on the 21st, he is to have bilateral talks with US President Biden and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
