Since 2019, the F1 circus has returned to Japan, the land of the rising sun, for the first time in three years. For the Japanese F1 GP at the world-loved Suzuka Circuit, six drivers, including local native Yuki Tsunoda, brought uniquely designed helmets.

Sebastian Vettel thanked Arai, who has been using it for many years through a special helmet, for the last F1 race at Suzuka, which he loves more than any other F1 circuit in the world.

According to Jens Munser Designs, Vettel, who will retire at the end of the season, has been using Arai helmets for 27 years since 1995, when he started karting at the age of eight.

On the back of the special helmet worn during the Japanese F1 GP, the gratitude of “Thank you Arai” was spelled out in Japanese.

The overall design is based on the image of the outer box the helmet is packaged in, and the German flag, expressed in black, red and yellow, is finished with a design that mimics the packaging tape.

Last year’s 2019 winner Valtteri Bottas brought a neon-themed helmet to his favorite course. It was designed by Olympic cyclist and girlfriend Tiffany Cromwell.

“I can’t resist bringing a special helmet to Suzuka, which I love so much,” Bottas said.

With typos of “Grill”, “Japan”, “Sushi”, “No Ramen No Life”, “Kobe City”, “Arigatou” and “Karaoke Bar”, in addition to classics such as Mt. Illustrations such that carp were drawn in a narrow space.

The typography is a mix of Japanese and alphabet, and this diverse feeling of working with designs that have their roots overseas captures the characteristics of Japan well. Cromwell, definitely. It is a wonderful design that expresses their deep love for Japan.

Yuki Tsunoda will challenge the triumphant first race back to his home country wearing a special fan-designed helmet.

This is a Red Bull Japan project called “#I was waiting for Suzuka-kun’s design to be executed in Suzuka”, and Hiromi Nagaoka’s design was selected.

Alex Albon prepared a helmet with a pattern of cherry blossoms. It is a very beautiful coloring which has been calculated with the navy blue color scheme of Williams.

Albon explained, “I hope it matches my name in Japanese! The Japanese fans are really awesome. I hope they like it as much as I do.”

Sergio Perez – For Japanese Fans

Sergio Perez prepared a special helmet for the first time as a Honda rider, “I wanted to do something for the Japanese fans” for “a really special weekend”.

Normally, Perez’s helmet is red, yellow, and blue, but it’s been replaced with a white base with cherry blossom petals drawn in gray.

“I used white as the base color. The front is a so-called typical Japanese image, and the sides are a bit more rustic,” Perez explained.

Mick Schumacher wears a hand-painted helmet and challenges his first race at Suzuka. It is a very nice finish with pastel colors and a touch of brushwork.

It was designed by Wienand Agnieska, who provided designs to Sebastian Vettel and Lando Norris.

Schumacher explained that Suzuka and Japan are “special” and “I think you can see the design is definitely different from what we’ve done so far.”

“The cherry blossoms and trees were all hand drawn with white as the base color.

“I hope this race brings me luck and points. I hope after the race I can put him on the shelf saying ‘He’s a special guy’.”
